From Nasty to Natural Beauty

Updated: Aug 7, 2018

With loads of different makeup brands out there how do you know which ones to go with?!

When I made the decision to swap over to the natural outer beauty and cosmetics world years ago it was definitely an interesting and challenging ride!

Going Natural is all about trial and error, and finding what works for you.

I often get asked what I use, how do you look so young and fresh!

To be honest I don't actually wear a lot of make up on a daily basis, a good bronzer and mascara is my daily mix.

I choose not to wear many products on my skin but when I do it is always of highest, purest most natural ingredients.

ASK YOURSELF THIS --- How many products do you apply to your skin every day?

Count them… they say the average person uses a min 10 per day, and in return absorbing over 100+ chemicals straight into their blood stream.

These chemicals are found in her face wash, face lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, deodorant, perfume, mascara, eye shadow, foundation…the list goes on.

Toxic load on the body can lead to so many bodily dysfunctions, hormonal, DNA damage, skin conditions, allergies and even cancer. Not only this most products are harmful to our environment and yes believe it or not our products are still being testing on animals, I know! I actually thought this was a thing of the past too!!!

More concerning is that companies are able to keep some chemicals as a secret. So we may not even know everything that is actually in our products!

Beauty and personal care products are a primary source of our chemical exposure.

Why did I go natural?

Why would you put it on your skin if you wouldn't eat it? Same thing right! Well Almost.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body and it absorbs up to 70% of the things you put on it!

Think about those nicotine patches, and how they work! Its absorbed through the skin!

Topically applied products go straight to your bloodstream, whereas ingested chemicals are filtered by the liver and kidneys.

What scares me a lot is that the beauty/make up industry is almost completely unregulated!?!? That means they can add whatever they want to your little products.

Natural Deodorant - Black Chicken, Axilla Paste

This one was the priority to change! The scary fact - Aluminium has been found in breast tissue. Also sweating is natural, believe it or not! Its one of the many amazing mechanisms the body has to keep us healthy. We need to perspire to release toxins. But your every day store bought deodorants are blocking the glands from doing this.

I tried quite a few of these, but the one I have found to love is the Black Chicken, Axilla Paste.

Definitely unique in the way its put on but you will get used to it promise.

The Beauty Chef - Probiotic Skin Refiner

Getting to know Carla (owner of The Beauty Chef) it didn't take me long to figure out her passion and research for natural living so for me its a no brainer that I love and use a lot of her products both inner and outer.

Containing bio-active whole food extracts, derived from bio-fermented algae, vegetables, grasses, herbs, spices and fruits, it’s naturally rich in lactic acid and probiotics to balance, hydrate and improve the skin's texture.

Kiehls - Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream

Not only does it smell and feel delicious its 99.6% naturally derived!!!

They use NZ Manuka Honey which acts as an anti-inflammatory to soothe skin, reduce redness and strengthen skin barrier. And Korean Red Ginseng Root. It's use is to help increase cell turn over rate, improving skin texture and glow

Ere Perez Rice Powder Bronzer

Comes in two shakes of bronze tones. I feel it gives you a great hint of colour and that gorgeous summer glow no matter what time of the year it is.

They are made with natural, non-toxic ingredients and non gmo rice powder - It also provides a natural SPF of 15+

MASCARA (a product Im still experimenting with)

Ere Perez Almond Oil Mascara

Its smudge resistant, as I found a lot of the natural mascaras smudge easy.

A good choice for someone who wants a lighter style mascara.

100% pure - black tea

Actually smells amazing (which is rare for mascara)

It offers a soft to medium coat to the lashes, super natural ingredients and vegan.

Gentle, all natural, good for you formula is suitable for everyone, even if you wear contacts or have sensitive eyes. Water and smudge resistant.

Inika Liquid Mineral Foundation -

I use this when I want a bit more coverage but still wanting something light with a natural finish. Super natural and they are certified organic ingredients.

Lano Lips 101 Ointment Fruities

I love this for when Im heading out. It makes your lips look nice and plump with a super shiny glossy look.

No artificial fragrances, parabens, petrolatum, PEGs, Mineral Oils or Sulfates nor do they test on animals.

Switching to natural tampons was also on the list of things to do if you haven't already done so- check out why its a must (here)
