Cooking or baking without spices is like forgetting to wear your underpants, I think!
The two must go together!
Aside from the fact that spices makes your food buzz with flavour, they are low-calorie, usually zero-cal and they have some of the most amazing health benefits for your mind and body.
Why waste your money on synthetic vitamins and pills that claim to do the same thing, when you can enjoy them so much cheaper in a better more way!
Play around with different combos!
You’d probably be surprised which spice I use for what!
If you could see my cupboard Im pretty sure you could quite quickly understand why it was so hard for me to pick my top favourites to share with you – but here are a few:
This gorgeous little spice I put in and on almost everything! From my sweet potato chunks to in my smoothies, bliss balls, over night oats, coffees etc. This amazing little thing can help lower blood sugar and bad cholesterol.
Did you know that in ancient Chinese medicine it is used for its high antioxidant properties. Try to consume 1/2 teaspoon of CINNAMON twice per day for its amazing health benefits
The most over used spice in my cupboard for sure, its always almost empty!
I love adding it to all my dishes and drinks – I add it to my morning digestive detox drink combination (click here to see recipe)in my veggie soups, smoothies and raw treats I use it for its yellow colour! It has the spiciness of ginger without the sweetness.
Currcumin – the active ingredient found in turmeric (often found in capsule/supplement form) has powerful benefits – antioxidant, anti- inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, anti fungal and anticancer activities. Can help assist with various infectious diseases, diabetes, allergies, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and other chronic illnesses according to medical experiments. Now with a long list like that, do you see why I love this one so much?
This has a strong flavour and smell, it also doubles as a salt replacement. Cumin has been known to aid in digestion and the absorption of nutrients. It also has antibacterial properties – and a high level of B Complex Vitamins.
The spice is an excellent source of minerals like iron, copper, calcium, potassium, manganese, selenium, zinc and magnesium. I use this in my delish, healthy and easy hummus recipe! (click here to make it)
This spice packs a powerful punch with major cleansing and detoxifying benefits. Cayenne pepper also helps to stimulate circulation, neutralise acidity in your body’s pH levels and can help assist with those nasty migraines.
From Flu relief to anti allergy powers and metabolism boosting, its easy to see why this is on my top favourites list. I also add this to my morning digestive detox drink mix too(see recipe here)
Pink Rock Salt (Himalayan)
I have adored this gorgeous little crystal for a very long time! So many amazing health benefits this little beauty brings unlike the common nasty table salt most people will have in their cupboards.
Table Salt, which is 97% sodium chloride is chemically produced, bleached and stripped of most nutrients!
Most of you wouldn’t eat white bread or pasta so why do you choose to eat white table salt??????
The light pink crystals are naturally full of minerals and iron, they also come full of 80+ minerals and elements that have proven to help create an electrolyte balance within your body, help to strengthen bones, lower your blood pressure and improve circulation! - Yes all in those teeny tiny little pink crystals you ask!
It has a much lower sodium intake that the regular table salt.
I use this on everything I eat, it’s important that we get enough salts in our diet. By adding it to your water, its a great way to make sure you are utilising the water you are drinking.
Did you know not enough salt can cause an imbalance of minerals in your body. The right salt can help with food absorption, cell cleansing, blood pressure, heart health, pH balance, blood sugar, allergies, asthma, sinus troubles, improved sleep, cellulite, reproductive health, muscle cramps, bone health, adrenal and thyroid health, nerve function, water content in body, digestive, oral and so many others!!!
As you can see now, the importance of getting enough salt in your diet and of the RIGHT kind.
