Raw Carrots Hormone Friendly

For years I have been snacking on raw carrots, and telling my clients to do the same – its such an easy and healthy snack on the go, but guess what! Carrots just got a whole lot more exciting after this discovery I made!

So lets just take a few steps back… Our busy crazy western lifestyle is jam packed with stress, whether it be emotional, physical or environmental… it all contributes to the production of estrogens. And don’t get me started on the many pesticides, plastics and chemicals called -xenonestrogens – chemicals which the body thinks is estrogen. Many dietary foods have an effect on this too, and throw our bodies out of whack. Soy being one of them! The phytoestrogens that mimic estrogen in the body can be found in this nasty craze. This modern day fad is destroying the hormones in men, women and children too. ‘Ill have a soy latte please’, no you won’t anymore! Also things like canola oil, soy oil, corn oil.. the list goes on, these all lead to inflammation and increase estrogenic load.

Dr. Ray Peat discovered that women reduced their problematic estrogen levels by consuming 1 medium sized raw carrot daily! Thats it! Less estrogen means less inflammation and stress on the liver.

Estrogen dominance not only makes you feel/look frumpy but is what you can thank for effects of PMS, Menopause symptoms, infertility, mood disorders. And yes it effects men too not just women – think ‘man boobs’, erectile dysfunction and lacking muscle tone. Not good for young growing boys!

So whats in carrots that makes them so good- well it seems raw carrots contain unique fibres that bind toxins, particularly the nasty estrogen, in our intestines and helps draw them out.

Dr. Ray Peat talks about how he introduced the ‘carrot a day’ routine –

Because of my own experience in finding that eating a raw carrot daily prevented my migraines, I began to suspect that the carrot fiber was having both a bowel-protective and an antiestrogen effect. Several women who suffered from premenstrual symptoms, including migraine, had their serum estrogen measured before and after the “carrot diet,” and they found that the carrot lowered their estrogen within a few days, as it relieved their symptoms. The carrot salad improves the ratio of progesterone to estrogen and cortisol, and so is as appropriate for epilepsy as for premenstrual syndrome, insomnia, or arthritis. (2)

So how can you include more raw carrot in your life;

  • Raw carrot bliss balls

  • Grated raw carrot on your granola

  • Raw carrot salad or my raw energy salad

There is really no excuse on not eating carrots, its so easy to incorporate into anyones daily nutrition and the best part its so damn affordable.
