Real Talk : That moment... learning to accept it

Don’t regret what you’ve done because at one time that was exactly what you wanted.

Arrghhhh, Its that moment.. you know the one, right after you do something you wish you hadn’t.

Maybe you said something you shouldn’t have, maybe you broke someones heart, maybe you broke someones trust, maybe you gave up a job or partner you shouldn’t have, maybe you made a decision that’s changed your life dramatically…. And now you are terrified that somehow your whole world is coming crashing down.

I know if feels like your brain is going to explode, all it wants to do is over analysis every single damn detail of that moment, and yes all day! That annoying little voice that causes constant anxiety and swimming butterflies in your belly, ones that seem to never disappear.

The moment when you are like, why did I do that? What on earth was I thinking? Silly girl/boy! I should have listened, they were right, oh no…and the chatterbox never ends.

I know that I have had numerous moments in my life, in the past and recently that if I could rewind or hit the delete button I would, The reality is no matter how much we would like to do so, we cant! So we must learn to not regret any decisions we make, as they are all part of the process and a big part of our journey through life. Trying to find the positive in every situation helps, there is always something to smile about… memories are beautiful things.

You are stronger than you think!

Right, so no more! Regret is one of the things that holds people back, and stops you dead in your tracks. So what! You made a ‘mistake’ or at the time ‘a choice’ that seemed so perfectly right then. You must now accept this so that you can continue forward. Don’t get stuck here! You don’t want to get to old age and say the only thing I regret is holding on to regret!

Some times losing one thing opens a door to another. It may also be that perfect lesson you needed to experience growth and be more effective and happier in your future.

But maybe it won’t benefit you much and you really do wish you had gone down another road…. This means you must find a way to accept what you lost out on this time so you can let go and move on.

You are beautiful, strong and smart…. You are also very capable in finding a new direction, which has just as much purpose. You will gain strength from this. What you need to keep in mind is no matter what you lost or threw away you can still be the best person you were meant to be and enjoy all of life’s luxuries in time.

As much as it doesn’t feel like it right now, you WILL eventually let go and move on.

What do I do now?

We must learn, we must grow, and so we keep moving forwards, baby steps all add up to giant steps….

  • In future make all your decisions with your whole heart and soul. Mistakes are our lessons; be thankful and find a way to really believe this.

  • Forgive yourself – know that its ok to make wrong decisions and mistakes

  • Breathe and be kind to yourself

  • Stop wondering what if, Stop saying I wish I didn’t or I should have or shouldn’t have.

  • Be patient – understand that sometimes we have to start all over again

  • Live life from your heart not just your head

  • Trust every experience as a part of your journey – Enjoy it!

  • Be grateful for what you DO have, not what you think is missing or lost.

  • Change your perspective – why do you have feelings of regret? Don’t worry about what others may think

  • Write down new goals and dreams to chase

  • Appreciate the simple things in life – look around you, there is beauty in everything you just need to open your eyes to see it.

  • Do 1 thing every day that makes you feel proud or feel a sense of achievement.

Life is ever changing, nothing is permanent, things always change, and we do lose out sometimes….but it doesn’t have to be catastrophic. Learn how to pick up the pieces faster each time and you won’t feel down for as long. We are all human! No one is perfect! We all experience regret at one time or another. Don’t be hard on yourself. Its a normal process of life.

Learn to NEVER REGRET anything that has happened in your life, it cannot be changed, undone, or forgotten. Take it as a lesson and move on!
