You Inspire Me with Ebony McLaughlin


Sorry guys, with me on the move back to Sydney – which involved lots of packing and more packing, driving and many other amazing time consuming must get done things, I sadly have not been able to do a You Inspre Me post for the last 2 weeks… But Im so excited to share with you this week the unbelievably fit and inspiring Ebony McLaughlin, Ebony is a physique, nutrition, and lifestyle coach, and fitness model. Having competed in 9 fitness events and recognised as a national champion in two federations, Ebony is well-equipped at transforming her body to get results. As a national fitness model, Ebony has appeared on the cover of two Australian fitness magazines – Shape and Natural Bodz, and has been featured within Oxygen Australia and Men’s Muscle and Health magazines. She has many qualifications under her belt, nutrition and fitness related. Ebony works with clients internationally to enable them to achieve long-term results and is devoted to communicating the importance of health and fitness, by providing the education to make healthy living a long-term adaption.

Ebony, Describe yourself in one sentence I’m a motivated, positive, driven, friendly fitness and health lover, and hugely passionate about supporting my clients towards living a healthy lifestyle.

I have seen you grow and change a lot over the last few years, You definitely have something hidden inside of you that many people only dream about having, many people admire your passion for fitness, so tell us! What is your secret Ebs, your motivation to get up and do what you do every day? A few years ago something inside of me clicked and I knew I wanted to be different. I spent a lot of years partying, with no desire to do anything more, and working jobs that gave me no satisfaction. When I began to care about the food I ate, and the exercise I did, every day I felt better and better. Over the years I have learned so much and with this knowledge I can help others to live and feel their best.

You can never stop learning and sharing that passion once you are in this game, What kinds of things inspire you? And who do you admire or find inspiration in? I’m inspired by people who step up, take a risk, and make a positive contribution! I can look at a plate of healthy food and think wow I’m really inspired to make that. Or I’ll see people training and having a go at something they’ve never tried before and that really inspires me too.


So what or who was it that inspired you to start this journey you are on, to help others and to become the amazing chick you are today? It was myself at first. I started training more at the gym and I did a lot of boxing. I noticed my body leaning out and my skin was becoming firm. I came across photos of Jamie Eason and her transformation inspired me to start lifting heavier. My fiancée and mum are my biggest supporters. If I question if I can do something, they tell me to go for it. I wouldn’t be who I am today without their support.

What do you think was your wake up call for change or ‘aha’ moment that you realised you wanted to create a change in the world around you? As mentioned I was working jobs with no desire to do anything but work and go out on the weekends. Looking after my body with exercise and eating well has not only changed who I am, but what I do for a living. My life has direction and purpose now.

Self Love/Self Belief, very important for success and for achieving what you have, what would you say are the 3 things you love most about yourself.

* I am a battler. I don’t give up on myself. * I am a good listener. This is really important in what I do. * I am motivated. This one is also important to me. The days I feel like my motivation is lacking, I find a way to refocus and get back to what I need to be done.

They are great!! So good to be able to recognise the best qualities in yourself and love yourself for them! What would you say has been your biggest personal hurdle or a health challenge that you have had? How did you overcome it? How has it changed you, helped you to grow? The more I changed, the more I realised some bad relationships had to end as I didn’t want to compromise myself anymore. I surround myself now with people who are supportive, good hearted, and inspire me.

And Your biggest Achievement? Starting my own business and working solo. I have to motivate myself daily so I’m a good role model to my clients. This can be challenging on days where I may not be feeling 100% motivated, but I remind myself I have worked hard for my opportunities and it’s important I keep striving for bigger and better.

What advice would you give to someone who is going through their own personal challenges, hardships or lacking self belief? What do you think has helped you when you have doubted your ability or dreams? Don’t give up on you. Accept that you will have to work hard for what you want. Success is so much more rewarding when you know you have given it everything. Successful people have had some help on the way to get to where they are. If you need help, be courageous and ask for it.


Do you believe in nurturing your mind and body as a whole? If so; how do make sure you do this regularly? Absolutely. I mediate daily. When you give so much of you to others, it’s important to take the time for you. I also try and do 1-2 yoga sessions a week.

What are your go to tips for performance in the gym?

My top 3: eat, sleep and hydrate for performance.

Your favourite all round exercise? Seriously way too hard! There are too many exercises I love. I love training glutes, so either lying leg curl or barbell glute bridge.
